Understanding the States

India, with its rich cultural and historical heritage, is a federal union of states, is a sovereign, secular and democratic Republic with a Parliamentary system of Government. The President is the constitutional head of Executive of the Union. Currently, there are 28 states and 7 Union territories (UT) in the country. The Governor is the Executive head in a State while, Union Territories are administered by the President through an Administrator appointed by him.
