The Indian economy has witnessed good growth in the last few years. The manufacturing and services segments of the economy have contributed heavily towards growth and employment. The services sector in particular has grown over the years while manufacturing has provided the necessary trickle-down effect for providing employment.

The post liberalisation era of the 1990’s has also helped India engage with the globe. The last few years have witnessed close interaction with major trading partners and India has signed several free trade agreements thereby opening the domestic market to international competition while at the same time providing opportunities for companies in India to tap global markets.

Going by the trend in India’s multilateral and bilateral negotiations for opening markets, tariffs will come down to zero or near zero with nearly 70-80 per cent of India’s trade partners by 2018. This provides large opportunities for investment and growth for individuals and companies investing in India in the next four to five years. There are several sectors which provide large opportunities in the country. Some of the sectors which have a good potential are detailed in this section.

OIFC is a not for profit public private initiative between the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) aiming at expanding the economic engagement of the Indian diaspora with India.
