The 10th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2012, held in Jaipur, Rajasthan provided a platform to facilitate the Overseas Indian community with their skills, expertise and financial resources to partner with the Indian Government and Industry and subsequently place India on a higher growth trajectory. The over arching theme of the annual flagship convention organised by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) and partnered by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), focused on "Global Indian: Inclusive Growth" that aimed to provide impetus to the India growth story.
More than 1,300 delegates from 54 countries participated in the multi-layered activity which also included Ministers of Indian origin from eight countries, 10 Central Government Ministers and an equal number of Chief Ministers and their cabinets from various Indian States. The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on January 8, 2012 while the valedictory address was delivered on January 9, 2012 by President Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil. The President also conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards on distinguished persons of Indian origin during the event.

In a major policy decision, the Central Government has decided to allow Qualified Foreign Investors (QFIs) to directly invest in Indian equity market in order to widen the class of investors, attract more foreign funds, and reduce market volatility and to deepen the Indian capital market. QFIs have been already permitted to have direct access to Indian Mutual Funds schemes pursuant to the Budget announcement 2011-12.
