January 2012 |
As OIFC commemorates the successful completion of the second year of its monthly e-Newsletter, 'India Connect', it gives me immense pleasure to extend my gratitude to all our Overseas Indian patrons for staying with us as our privileged readers.
OIFC successfully concluded the 6th OIFC Market Place, organised during the 10th Annual Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, held from January 7-9, 2012 in Jaipur, Rajasthan. More than 1,300 delegates from 54 countries participated in the multi-layered activity. The annual flagship event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on January 8, 2012 and the valedictory address was delivered on January 9, 2012 by President Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
While the PBD provided an exclusive platform to Overseas Indian delegates, OIFC's interactive Market Place, focused on expanding the economic engagement of the Indian diaspora with India through B-B Connects with different State and Knowledge Partners. The OIFC Pavilion had State Partners from Assam, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha and Rajasthan and various Knowledge Partners showcasing their opportunities and services. It also witnessed a high number of registrations from Overseas Indians on OIFC Portal.
OIFC also hosted a successful business meeting between Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) and Government of Gujarat on Clean Energy, and IT services. Further, OIFC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Reunion Island (Chambre de Commerce et D'Industrie de la Reunion) for the purpose of information exchange and business opportunities.

The Pravasi Bhartiya Divas platform (PBD) was initially focused on engaging with the diaspora around the world under one roof; network, share their experiences in various fields and honour individuals of merit in appreciation of their role in India's growth story.
The PBD has over the years in some ways transcended the nostalgia though it is clearly an inseparable part of what constitutes the discourse with diaspora. PBD has now developed into a serious platform for Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to break boundaries and nurture business and investment relationships with their motherland. Calling the Indian diaspora its bridge of friendship to the world, Pravasi Bhartiya Divas invites the strong diaspora of India to become a part of India's success story.
Can flagship events such as PBD help in enhancing the partnership between India and its diaspora?
Let's discuss.
