International Trade Risks and Letter of Credit Transactions: Operational Issues

Following issues will be taken up for discussion at this Programme:
Specific focus on operational issues that are to be carefully considered by the importers at the time of preparing the commercial contracts, submitting letter of credit application to the banks and establishing letters of credit;
The risky conditions exporters must avoid at the time of receiving letters of credit will be taken up for discussion;
Interpretation of some of the fields in the LC format (SWIFT) with specific reference to the relevant UCP /ISBP provisions;
Structuring the payment terms and the relevant documents in a letter of credit;
Discrepancies which can be avoided at the time of presentation of documents by the exporters;
Certain extra-ordinary conditions where the rules of UCP are subjected to court decisions;
Usage of standby letters of credit; and,
ICC Banking Commission opinions which will have impact on the LC transactions.
