India IT Summit - 2012 - A Grand Success Trivandrum, 20 January 2012: Confederation of Indian Industry, Kerala, successfully organized the recently concluded third edition of India IT Summit on the 19th and 20th of January 2012 at Vivanta by Taj, Trivandrum. About the Event: The annual India IT Summit is one of CII's premium conferences on Information Technology and the foremost IT event held in Kerala. The 2012 edition of the event had over 20 eminent personalities from India and abroad, discussing selected subjects of national relevance in four separate sessions. Over 300 delegates - CEOs, industry experts, politicians, academicians and government officials - attended the summit. Theme of the Event: The theme of the event, “Business Strategies for Non-Linear Growth”, is a topic that is widely discussed at the highest levels in corporate India. The Summit was distributed over 2 days and 4 Plenary sessions.
The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister for Kerala, Shri Oomen Chandy in the presence of Hon’ble Minister for IT, Industries and Urban Affairs, Shri P K Kunhalikutty, Mr Kris Gopalakrishnan, Mr V K Mathews, Mr Alexander Varghese and other stalwarts of the Indian IT Industry. The Chief Minister while congratulating Confederation of Indian Industry for organizing this wonderful summit also stressed on the importance of development and growth of IT in the state. The Chief Minister proposed steps and various initiatives to to boost the growth of IT firms in the state. They include, reducing costs for IT Companies setting up in Government spaces, setting up Cyber Parks and other IT infrastructure. The chief minister also spoke about ‘Emerging Kerala’, the upcoming major initiative of the Kerala Government to portray Kerala as an ideal investment destination on a global scale.
Mr S Gopalakrishnan, popularly known as Kris amongst his colleagues, who is also the National Vice President, CII, while delivering his address stated that the future was in a transition phase and moving from PC World to Mobile technology. Mr Ganesh Lakshminarayanan, President and Managing Director, Dell India suggested moving from a cost based to a value based model. The event was also graced by the presence of Foreign Dignitaries like Mr Mike Nithavrianakis, Deputy High Commissioner, Great Britain, Dr Ingo Karsten, Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany who explored various avenues for investment and partnership in IT and other sectors with their respective regions and other parts of Europe. The Summit also saw top officials of the government like Mr G Vijayaraghavan, Member, Kerala State Planning Board, who maintained the importance of having the right number of employees with the right degree of productivity. He also highlighted the importance of the Government making suitable policy reforms that support policy reforms that support IT Industry.
Mr T P Sreenivasan, Former Ambassador to UN & Executive Vice Chairman, Kerala State Higher Education Council pointed out that the Educational Institutions must use IT as a tool and should foster a harmonious partnership between Industry and academia. The Summit also hosted famous stalwarts from the IT Industry including Mr Avinash Vashishtha, Chairman and GU Managing Director, Accenture-India, Mr V Ramaswamy, Vice President and Global Head- iON, Tata Consultancy Services, Mr Sudhir Nair Senior Vice President – Infrastructure Management Services, Mahindra Satyam; Mr Pradeep Udhas, Executive Director & Head – IT/ITES, KPMG; Mr C Balagopal, Managing Director, Terumo Penpol, Mr Rajeev Srinivasan, Director - Asian School of Business & Adjunct Faculty, IIM Bangalore The valedictory function was held today at 1200 hrs and the valedictory address was done by Hon’ble Minister for Labour and Rehabilitation who spoke on the positives of the IT Industry and the role it can play to aid with the problem of Kerala’s High unemployment rate.
The valedictory function was also attended by Mr V K Mathews, Chairman, India IT Summit, who provided a brief summary of the summit to all the participants. Mr Alexander Varghese, Vice Chairman, India IT Summit 2012 described the summit as a grand success and announced the 4th India IT Summit on January 17-18, 2014. Partner State: Government of Kerala was the co-organizer of India IT Summit 2012 White Paper by KPMG: KPMG, the Knowledge Partner for the event, brought out a white paper on the theme of India IT Summit 2012 and the general outlook for the Indian IT industry. This was released by the Hon’ble Chief Minister during the inaugural session.
