Conference on Smart Eco-Systems

"Developing Sustainable Cities – Beyond Infrastructure & Environment..." - 22 February 2011 at Hotel Park Sheraton Chennai.
Against the background of economic changes caused by the globalisation and the integration process, the country faces the challenge of combining competitiveness and sustainable urban development…simultaneously.
The concept of the smart cities as the next stage in the process of urbanisation has been quite evident in recent times, while much research is still in progress on aspect pertaining to the role of human capital, social and relational capital and environmental interest etc. as important drivers of the aforesaid growth.
These smart ecosystems can be identified along four key dimensions namely - Economy, Environment, Security and Quality of life and along key parameters like smart planning; smart mobility/connectivity; smart people; smart environment; smart healthcare, smart infrastructure; and most importantly, smart governance amongst others. In other words, these ecosystems are referred to as world-class, self- sustainable habitats with minimal pollution levels, maximum recycling, optimized energy supplies and efficient public transportation etc.
Today, it is proven world over that the approach to smart cities will envision ‘balanced regional development’, thereby help in achieving greater efficiency in the overall hierarchy of human settlements at all levels.
We strongly believe that these industrial hubs and eco-friendly cities will double employment opportunities, triple industrial production and increase exports by four folds over years to come.
Given the background, Tamil Nadu State Council of Confederation of Indian Industry organised the Smart Eco-Systems 2011 with an objective to deliberate on factors internal and external, towards developing smart cities – future destination to sustainable living.
